A work in process: Labor of love

Standard

When our girls were small we envisioned creating a close family bond, family traditions, lots of  hands on active face time.  We achieved that by investing in a tiny, well worn 900 square  foot cabin in the woods.  It became our go to place for hiking in the forest, building, creating, drawing, celebrating birthdays, playing in the snow and hanging out on foggy days watching tv and videos.

It was 60 years new when we bought it and now, 25 years later, we are anticipating a total remake but are not quite prepared for that so, in the meantime,  we are patching and fixing to shore the old girl up.

Here’s a peek through the upstairs bathroom window

86 year old. Ringing with the sounds of laughter and the delighted exclaimations of children busy crafting, painting, exploring, watching videos. This small cottage in the woods was purchased for these very purposes: creating memories, traditions, developing character and strengthening the bond of love in our family. We bought this palace when it was already old at 60 years. Now out hope is to tear down and rebuild with plans to accomodate us, our 2 daughters, their sweet husbands and7 grandchildren. Doesn't't that sound like a piece of heaven?!! Until then, however, we must shore up what remains. Definitely a work in progress!

There was a pipe leak from the upstairs somewhere inside the walls dripping from the ceiling to the bathroom below so we had to open the walls to identify the source.

Here is the narrow stairs to the loft above we all sleep in.  The facing wall has a removable door the hides the plumbing from the upstairs toilet area.

So these cubbies provide storage space for all kinds of stuff.  Things that were left from the previous owners as well. 🙂

The cabin has no concrete foundations. It sits on wood pillars with space underneath that follows the slope of the property.  More storage.

Outside stairway. Really this is a fun and awesome adventure for the whole family.  We are discovering the joys of ownership.  We CAN DO and DO WITHOUT more things than we ever imagined.  This is an absolutely gorgeous forest and we accept all of it as a gift from our very kind and gracious God.  He is good ALL THE TIME! 🙂
