Meditation has been sold as a mindless mantra, a zoning achieved by repeating over and over a word or sound that will open the soul to a higher level of knowledge or peace. This perception of meditation is a 180 from God’s definition found in Joshua 1:8. The term meditate is all about chewing and digesting like a cow chewing on her cud. Meditation is meant to transform and open your spirit to God’s wisdom and leading. As you read the Bible God speaks. When something pops out to you STOP! Mull it over. Think about what is being said. Ask God to explain it to you. Go back to it throughout the day. Ask God what He wants you to do with this information. Talk about it to the people you meet. Chew on it. Change.

The hero in Chariots of Fire said when he runs he “feels the pleasure of God.” All of creation was made for the pleasure and purposes of God. In His words all He made was “VERY GOOD”. It brings God great pleasure to see us enjoy the works of His hands. And doesn’t it “renew our strength” when we “mount up with wings like eagles”, “run without getting weary” and “walk without giving up”? The Lord is all about diving into challenges and finding new and better ways to enjoy His inventions and creations. The best thing we can do as we paddle board, boat, fly or ski is, as we thrill to the experience, give praise to the One Who made it all possible for us to enjoy! Thank You Jesus. For without You nothing was made that was made (John 1:3)

Snowy, wintry, mountain lake meditations: Great are You Lord!

Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, neither entered into the heart of man the things God has prepared for those who love Him. Great is Your faithfulness oh Lord. When I consider the works of your hands, the jaw dropping beauty and complexity of creation, I am in breathless wonder that you care for me so deeply.

Tomorrow is Your birthday. You have accomplished the impossible. You left your throne to enter our world like every other human child. You allowed yourself to be utterly dependent, needy, fragile. You suffered through sibling rivalry, misunderstanding, alienation, rejection, abuse and execution so I can know You truly do understand my sorrows. You, in Your death and resurrection opened wide the doors of heaven for me. You tore up the list of damning accusations against me, that were all true, and declared me not guilty. Not guilty! NOT GUILTY!!!

Glory flower: Praise to the One who made you!

When I consider the works of Your hands I am in awe that I am one of your fabulous creations. Such imagination, creativity, wisdom, joy and purpose in all Your design. Thank You for the many gifts You have lavished upon me Jesus. You are the eye in the center of all my storms. You take my fractured circumstances and weave the drama, disappointments, failures and limitations into a masterpiece of redemption. If God be for me who can be against me? Whom shall I fear? You are outside the box having no limitations. You exist in every dimension, time and space all at once. You have created it all. There is nothing I have ever done, thought or said or experienced or will encounter that surprised or distanced You from me. You, o God are my defender and hope. You inhabit
the praises of Your people and so I praise You. May all who hear and all who see celebrate with me my Great God! Amen.
