Kris Vallotton: Follow that snake

Motives matter to God. There are many things done in the name of God that look noble on the outside but are really “white washed tombs full of dead man’s bones.” The Apostle Paul points out that “We can give all our possessions to feed the poor…and not have love.” In other words, things that look like love in the living room can be full of poisonous snakes in the basement. It is possible to sacrifice in selfishness or to be generous, while being self serving. The fact is, smiling faces don’t always tell the truth and flattery isn’t kindness; it’s manipulation, rooted in witchcraft (or witchcrap as we say at home). The clearest example of this in the Bible is in Acts 16 where a slave girl was following Paul proclaiming “These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.” “She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out at that very moment.” Did you catch that she was proclaiming the truth but it was rooted in an evil spirit? There are some movements that are proclaiming freedom of religion but are actually rooted in the spirit of rebellion, (which again, is another form of witchcraft). I’m reminded that Moses and Aaron threw down their staff in front of Pharaoh and it became a snake. But Pharaoh’s sorcerers threw down their staffs and they became two snakes! The power of false signs and false wonders is that a move of God gets polluted with other snakes. Yet there is a God snake in the midst of the movement who’s mission is to lead us into true freedom. Christians, often condemn a move of God because of the false signs and poisonous snakes. This plays into the hands of the sorcerers and undermines the mandate of the kingdom. The gift of discernment, is the most needed gift in the Body of Christ today! This Holy Spirit gift is like wearing infrared glasses or night goggles. It gives us the capacity to see through the darkness of deceit and deception to find and follow the God snake through the cesspool of these critical times.
