Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 KJV
When we want/need/desperately long for more faith what can we do? Where can we go to fill up when our faith tank is low? Jesus. He invented faith and showed us how it works. First of all we have to take our eyes off of our worries and fears and look at the One who beat it down. He came to earth, God’s only conceived Son, leaving all His entitlements to save all of mankind.
1. He fixed His eyes on His Father. He said He only does what He sees the Father doing. When asked by a disciple to show him the Father Jesus said have I been with you so long and you still don’t get it? If you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Father. I came to reveal Him to you.
Note to self: set my heart and my eyes on Jesus. He’s bigger than my worst day, bigger than my worst fear, bigger than my worst enemy.
2. He lived every moment to please His Father. He said He did not come to do away with the law but to fulfill the law. The Laws are the embodiment of honor and love. As God’s kids we will love and honor our Father. From that heart and mindset flows honor for our commitments to be faithful to our marriages, our honoring our neighbors, honoring life and stewarding faithfully and carefully everything God has created.
Note to self: Enjoy God’s character of honor and love. Let His heart inspire me to be better every day. Expect that the natural reward for kindness and faithfulness despite my bad days will be upgrades and increased honor from God—“Who for the joy set before Him endured.”
3. Jesus never gave up. When the opposition got worse He remained relentlessly focused on the end goal of saving humanity, winning our freedom and reuniting us to our Father God. This was His joy. This was His confidence that if He kept on without giving in or giving out He will accomplish everything He and the Father ever dreamed of and longed and planned for before anything else was even made. THIS IS FAITH: knowing that what you can’t see and touch now will be real–see it, touch it real–beyond a doubt coming real!!!
Note to self: don’t forget the goal. Make the main thing, being pleasing to God and listening to His voice, make the main thing be the main thing. Don’t get distracted. Keep your eye on the prize.
