Write these things for the future: Psalm102:15-22

Standard

You don’t journal? You don’t take pictures? How are you going to remember things that in the moment blew you away and you said to yourself “I’ll NEVER FORGET THIS!”. I had tons of those moments watching our girls grow up and that’s what I thought and now I just remember the feelings like walking through the neighborhood on a foggy morning or sitting on the beach on a hot breezy day. I remember thinking amazing things, things God revealed to me, things I should never forget but they are gone along with so many precious moments in time I long to revisit with our babies growing up. These are very special and something that would be cool for our children’s children to discover about their mommas and daddys or about me long after I pass from this earth. But God said about the things we have seen Him do and heard Him say “WRITE IT DOWN SO THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT YET BORN WILL PRAISE HIM.”

Because the amazing stories about what God did and said died with the first generation of the nation of Israel brought out of captivity their children didn’t know God. They became like the idol worshiping people that lived next to them. They lost their fear, respect, belief in the only true God and the result was what we read from the book of Judges in the Old Testament: “Everybody did what was right in their own eyes.”. I tell you God doesn’t waste words or gloss over the truth. It’s ugly when we humans walk away from God. But it doesn’t have to be that way. God longs for relationship with us and He pursues us in every moment and every breath of our being with clues, sweet surprises, amazing thoughts, miracles, beautiful opportunities to witness His kindness and justice acted out in our communities. James 1:17 says every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights. God made man in His image. Want to see what God looks like? Witness compassion, kindness, joyous laughter, tears and rage over injustice, delight in giving good gifts, patience in teaching, brilliant ideas and fantastic discoveries, beautiful art, heroic acts of self sacrifice. There! That’s what God looks like! He is love. He is BRILLIANT! He is just and compassionate and HEROIC! He pursued us when we were wandering away lost and despairing. “All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to his own way. But the Lord has laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6). “We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

Do you want to know God? Do you want to Really know God? Start with His only Son, Jesus. Jesus came to show us His Father. He said He only does what He sees the Father doing (John 5:19). And His Father sent Him into the world that we might live through Him. “He that has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son DOES NOT HAVE LIFE.” (1 John 5:12) “But as many as received Him to them He gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12)

God reveals Himself first and foremost through His Word, the Bible. So begin reading the Bible. Start with the Gospel of John and take a notebook and pen with you on your journey of discovery. You’ll have lots of thoughts and questions. After you have received Jesus as your Savior He baptizes you with His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit becomes your personal, permanent counselor and guide. Ask Him to teach you. Ask Him to guide you. Write down your questions and His answers. And share your journey and discoveries with your family and friends and neighbors. Kindle a fire of awe and wonder within yourself and everyone that crosses your path. Give them the fire to pass along. Don’t let it go out or cool or the memory of our Great God will grow cold like fading embers. God is writing your story! He sees you as His much loved child. He sees you as a sharpened arrow in His quiver, added ammunition and a weapon of destruction against His enemy! He has packed in you AMAZING AND BRILLIANT talents, gifts and abilities that will wow you and cause His reputation to be lifted up and proclaimed around the world! Yes YOU! If you are thinking IMPOSSIBLE! Then know right now that God specializes in impossible! lol 😄🤣

So, in summary, “write these things for the future”! Every waking and sleeping moment God is speaking to you! Yes! God sometimes does His best work in our dreams! So always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope that is in you. Carry what God has told you in your writings, in God’s Word, and in your heart! “Always remember what is written in the Book of the Teachings. Study it day and night to be sure to obey everything that is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything.” (Joshua 1:8 NIV)
