Numbers 24:8. God is irresistible. Balaam the prophet did everything he could to place a curse upon Israel as Balak, the king of Moab, had paid him to, but all God allowed him to speak were blessings over Israel and prophesies of Israel’s future king who destroy all of Israel’s enemies
From the beginning of time Satan has used the back door of separating mankind from God’s protection and blessings by getting man to break the first commandment. “You shall love the Lord your God with ALL YOUR HEART AND ALL YOUR SOUL AND ALL YOUR MIND AND ALL YOUR STRENGHT”. When we have that right everything falls into place: we are impervious to Satan’s lies and tricks, our relationships will be based on love and not manipulation, we will have joy and not frustrations and disappointment, we will have hope and not despair. But when we entertain thoughts about God’s motives, or consider that the grass might really be better on the other side of the fence we expose ourselves to serious loss just like Adam and Eve in the garden. That’s why God says guard your heart, guard your thoughts, take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Just because a thought entered your head doesn’t mean it was your thought. Satan, God’s enemy, is always putting thoughts in our heads. The Bible says “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”. It also says when Jesus died so did your ungodly passions. He nailed them to the cross and we are to consider ourselves dead to our old wanton habits and alive to God. We cannot serve two masters, Jesus said in the sermon on the mount, we will love one and hate the other. Every moment is a battle to choose who we will listen to. Loving God first makes the choice easier.
